I'd guess this coin bank was made as a gift to celebrate the birth of the year 1874, but I suppose it could have been made for Easter, perhaps with the 1874 scratched into the paint as a sort of afterthought. I'm not sure--but what's better than an egg to hold every possibility?! In beautiful old paint as rich in color as a fresh laid farm egg. I love this, and equally from both sides.
4 7/8" l x 2 3/4" w x 3 1/8" t. Good coverall condition, with holes at both ends, I guess from where it was pierced to turn. The base (which can be removed, by screws) is a little loose, and shows a little edge loss/roughness, but the egg fits, and sits, perfectly atop it.
