Painted Pansies on a Clam Shell, Antique Coastal New England Folk Art Momento

Found on the southern coast of Maine, surely not far from where this large clam shell was painted, late 19th/early 20th century. I might pass by a pansy painting on board, but give me some flowers painted on a shell, or a rock, or a conk, and I'll scoop it every time. The world is a canvas for the resourceful! And paintings on objects feel much more like momentos.
