H. Manning, 4 Saratoga Street, East Boston, Hand-painted Tin Box

Regular price $40.00

I'm in love with the gold painted lettering on this old black painted tin box--super smart looking and satisfying, and wonderfully playful,  and though I haven't been able to find anything on H. Manning, I'm completely smitten with them!  I'd guess it was used a cigarette case, though would work for carrying business cards now, or a deck of playing cards too--and it seems that both the top and bottom lids come off, though the top one is a bit sticky and I don't want to force it; the bottom one fits tight but comes off no problem. ...I just had the thought that maybe H Manning was a magician and this was a trick box, with its openings on either end? I don't know, but  great in any case.

4 3/4" t x 3 1/16" w x 1 1/8" d. Some loss of black paint around the edges, no real matter; the gold on black lettering pops beautifully.

From what I can tell, 4 Saratoga Street in East Boston no longer exists, but would have been close to the intersection of Saratoga and Meridian.
