I found this and a second antique vesta at an antiques shop in Vermont this week--there were several more as well, clearly one person's collection. Just like an antique pocket flask in miniature, this one dates to the late 19th century I believe, and I believe the body is silver plate, with leather covering the top half. Hinged at the shoulders, it is rather a satisfying thing to pop it open, with room for a handful of matches inside--or a good secret hiding place for some other sort of little treasure(s). Very charming.
2 5/16" t x 1 3/8" w x 1/2" d and in good antique condition, general light wear and aging , with one small loss to the bottom edge of the "cap" (which does not from what I can tell screw off.) Hinge in good shape.
