I really love the this carving, including for the its orientation to the corner of the block of wood from which it was carved, such that it comes to a point at the very center of the face, which gives it a lot of dynamism and makes for especially great profiles. Plus the wonderfully carved hair! Very warmly executed, with a lot of character, but no fuss and quite elegant, too; really, just right. I think the carver, Jimmy Carey, was a Jamaican folk carver and that the piece dates to the 1970s.
Of a really nice scale at 7 1/2" t x 2 1/4" wide and deep. Very good condition, with a nice patina. Signed (incised) on underside.
