Photos do no justice to this sweet old hand-carved slide lid box; details give a better sense of the care invested in (quite delicately) carving BLADES in relief down one side, with carved flourishes above and below the letters too. Then three X's painted across the reverse side (making me think it may have been Xacto blades it held) and yellow squares with green outlines on the short ends. Quite a special feeling one for holding knives or razor blades--or blades of easter grass!--now. (And certainly would be a good one for holding dominoes, too.)
6 1/8" x 2 1/4" x 1 13/16". Good condition, earlyish 20th century I believe, nice warm patina. Slide lid opens easily and closes flush. Photos make it look as if there might be splits in the slide lid but there are not; rather, it was carefully carved with slight recesses to fit the grooves of the box as it slides.
