Satisfying Old Mechanical Tin Forked Tongs

Regular price $25.00

As I've noted elsewhere (because I'm proud of myself for doing it!), I spent several days over the holidays weeding through old boxes of stuff, almost all of which I dropped to Goodwill or boxed back up for the flea market next summer. But these I couldn't put away, they're too satisfying, and I could spend half the day just opening and closing and them, with the double hinged design making that feel a bit like a Rube Goldberg-ian sort of event! The way the tine ends come together and slightly interlace is pretty lovely too. Maybe not the most expedient way to serve the salad, but quite excellent as a thing.

10 1/2" long. There were a number of makers who produced tongs in a similar design; I can't see a mark on these. C. 1920s-40s I believe, general wear and aging, all to the good I think, working smoothly.
