I have not been able to find out anything about the E.B. Mae Bryde who signed this charming watercolor, but I must say I have fallen in love with it and so with her too! Every single thing included in the painting--from the neatly tended red geranium to the Cupie doll statue/bookend to the scruffy, homely little dog--feels very specifically and deliberately chosen, adding up to a really warm and wonderful portrait of this kind, curious, and competent looking woman. I especially love the combination of blue rug, green dress, yellow sofa, and painterly pastel walls, and how the cover of her magazine reads like an abstract painting. Really singular, and I think pretty special.
11 7/8" x 8 3/8" and in excellent condition. I'd guess 1960s or so, but I'm really not certain. Signed at lower left and also on reverse.
