A few more pattern design drawings today by a 12 year old Burt Gemberling of Selinsgrove, Snyder County, PA in 1880--this and two others just listed, all executed in graphite on laid ledger paper. Here a Lemoyne Star, a classic quilt block, very Pennsylvania--and with X's and +'s in the surrounding diamonds and squares as if to indicate alternating colors, but also feeling a bit like spiritual symbols. Crisp and bold, but you can also very much feel the presence of his hand in every line. Lovely.
12 7/8" x 7 3/4". Graphite on laid, good condition, with a little toning around the edges of the paper and a few scattered light smudges. Graphite strong and crisp. Blank reverse.
