Beautiful Old Japanese Shoe Maker's Pattern/Template (Last One)

Regular price $65.00

A year or two ago I purchased a handful of Japanese cobbler's patterns from a dealer friend in Maine and have sold them over time; this one is the last. What I know is that they were brought back from Japan years ago, retrieved from the archive of a shoemaker's workshop long since closed. I don't know enough about shoe or boot construction to read this as a pattern, but believe the quilt like collaging of silver and gold paper and blue and white fabric mark pieces to be cut and seams to be sewn. I find it very beautiful as a found object--very Japanese and also very contemporary feeling. I believe earlyish 20th c.

12 1/2" x 7 1/2" t measured on the square. Good condition, with a small fold over at the back edge of top and at the heel that I think could be pressed out.
