Universal Portland Cement Co. Interior Stable, Chicago--Gorgeous c. 1910s-20s Silver Print Mounted on Linen

Regular price $35.00

I purchased this photograph and a second of the same Chicago cement company together--but I think they are good for different reasons, so am listing them separately. This one for me is all about the formal gorgeousness of this industrial concrete interior, and the intensity of all of these suspended hooks, making it feel one part Brutalist's dream, one part meat locker, and one part Dia installation--and rather haunting in its emptiness; absence ansd/or anticipation. The clarity and tonality of the photograph is stunning, a silver print I believe, mounted to linen.

9 1/8" x 7 3/8", very good condition, super crisp and striking.Typed label on reverse identifies it as the "Interior Stable" at the Universal Portland Cement Co., Ellston Ave, Chicago (which became Atlas Portland Cement Company in 1930; I believe this photo dates to the 1910s-20s.)
