This engraving of twelve different examples of agricultural fences came from The Cyclopaedia or Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences & Literature published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, London, in 1820. I just think they're completely beautiful things, each and every one, and all the more together. And what a whole lot of history and resonance rolled up into a fence. Excellent.
