I'm no tool expert, but I sure love a beautiful old tool, the more primitive feeling the better, with this antique hand-forged strapped hammer is just my sort. And this small, old homemade knife too, with cross shaped handle, which I found alongside it, in Vermont. Just a little research makes me think the hammer earlier than later 19th century American, though as I say my knowledge is not deep! The knife maybe not quite as old, I'm not certain, but 19th century I believe.
Hammer 12 2/3" long. Knife 5 3/4" l x 1 7/8" w at handle. The wood on the handle of the hammer right where the straps attach is very aged, darkened and with some softening and splitting, as documented.
