When I travel to foreign countries, I often buy lotions and potions just for the great packaging, and most definitely if I found toothpaste being sold in a great looking ceramic jar I would most certainly scoop it right up--as someone else did with this at more than 100 years ago. From what I've learned, the W. Woods apothecary in Plymouth, England produced this toothpaste from 1860 until 1910, and there are enough of these jars out there that I think they pretty widely exported it. I don't think it would be a bad idea to drain a toothpaste tube into it yet, but it would also be good for housing lotions, or set next to the sink for rings and earrings or whatever.
2 5/8" in diameter and 1 1/2" tall. Good overall condition--a little staining around the rims (I have not cleaned with bleach, which might remove it) and one small chip and a hairline crack on the interior bottom lip. Still looks bright and sharp.
