Early Carved Doll Crib with Original Yellow Paint

Regular price $65.00

I found this doll's cradle right beside the miniature ladder back chair I just listed in Maine this past week, and have to guess they both came from the estate of someone with a really terrific early doll furniture collection. While they may not be as hot a ticket as miniature chairs, I find the form of a cradle a super beautiful thing, with its curved rockers underneath and arched end/s on top. This one, more early than late 19th c. I would guess and carved of a hard wood, shows some of the original paint still hanging on where it would least have been handled--a wonderful yellow on the top of the rockers, dabs of mustard on the exterior of the head end, and, if one looks closely, what looks like a little blue and green on the ends of the sides. And, looking underneath, one sees that the wood must have been repurposed from an early painted sign of some sort, with a little black painted lettering showing. Really a lovely and special feeling thing, joined by square iron nails.
