Wonderful Antique Dutch Slide Lid Crayon Holder with Folk Art Watercolor

Regular price $95.00

This is quiet and might be easily overlooked, but it is wonderful--and I'm feeling more and more that finding and appreciating special small things is a form of protest (in a world of large, bright, attention commanding/demanding things--and people!) It is a very shallow wooden slide lid box, with the long, narrow lid sliding out to reveal ten cylindrical niches, made for holding individual paint sticks/pastels/crayons. With a most charming naive watercolor adhered to the face of it, which looks earlier 19th century to me (I think perhaps older than the box itself) featuring a couple in hats out walking in the landscape. I know this was found in Holland, and do believe that is where it originated.  With the watercolor feeling like a window, and the box feeling like a painting with a secret compartment!

5" x 2 1/2" x 1/2". One small hole in the watercolor as shown but stable, not fragile, and overall very good antique condition, reads crisp and bright.
