Victorian Cobalt Glass Jewelers Lamp with Faceted Sides (for Tipping to Direct Light)

Regular price $75.00

I love it when the person opening cases at an antique shop points things out to me that I might not have noticed on my own. I was looking at something else in the case where this was housed, and it was the dealer opening the case who pulled this out and asked me if I knew what it was. A lamp, clearly, which I never pay much attention to, but he explained specifically a jeweler's alcohol lamp, with the faceted sides allowing it to rest at an angle, all the better to direct the light toward one's detail oriented work.(Also used by watchmakers, etc.) With cobalt blue examples the rarest to find--and certainly the most beautiful! I was sold! Simple, smart design, and feeling quite like a jewel itself! C. 1880s (this design patented by Norman Clark of Sterling Illinois in 1883), with a full wick, ready to put to use.

4 3/4" t x 2 3/4" d. Excellent condition.
