You know I love blocks, but I look hard for singular and special ones, and this set is definitely that for me. It is most of all the sides with mossy green painted letters that sold me--with those letters looking hand-painted, or at least hand-outlined in graphite, and done in my favorite sort of wonky and wavering sort of way. But the rest of the sides are very good too, with the white letters, which look stamped or stencil painted to me, placed anywhere but dead center of the square. And then another side with hand-written numbers, and another of letters inscribed in red circles, and soft blue pictures, and more. Plus a handful of excellent stars. And with the 25 block, which I've photographed at the very center, unmatched to the rest of the set--but with solid painted sides in blue, yellow, orange and red, I think it provides the perfectly complement/punctuation mark to any arrangement.
Set of 25 (24 matching one odd shown at center) All about 1 3/4" square. Well worn in the best of ways, as pictured, but no notable losses to the wood. C. 1920s-40s I would guess.
