Striking and Sensitive Inuit Stone Carving of Man and Seal with Sinew Reins (Shoulder Repair)

Regular price $135.00

A beautiful older Inuit stone carved sculpture of a seal hunter, mid 20th century I believe, unsigned as far as I can tell.  Wonderfully expressive face on the hunter, framed by the softly rounded edge of his parka hood, and with a real sense of power and gravity to his body as he pulls the backwardly arching seal from the sea via sinew reins. Feels about as elemental as it gets, spare but deeply expressive, very much unfolding in the round.

9" l x 5 5/8" t x 3 5/8" d. There is a repair to his left shoulder as documented--evident, but very much falling away in relation to the whole. Otherwise very good condition, rich patina, lovely.
