I've seen just a couple other rattles like this over time (two, exactly), so there must have been someone who made them, but this is the first I've seen with a wooden mouthpiece on at the end of the handle, making me realize it's a horn as well as a rattle. )And, indeed, it produces a loud honk like a kazoo! Two marbles inside the tin body give it the rattle a nice tone too. Once it was the property of a Robert, who wrote his name on the mouthpiece. All one really needs to be a one man band!
9 1/2 x 3 5/16 x 2 3/16 and in good condition, ready to make lots of noise with! With surface wear as evident, all to the good I think. 1920s or so I would guess.
