I love an old ship in the bottle, and will always marvel at them, but am fussy about the ones I like, preferring very folky ones, with lots of color and lots packed in, as is the case with this one. Fabulous play of strings on the masts, colorful paint on the hull and houses on the shore behind, plus gray painted mountains, with what I believe are actual stones along the shoreline, and an arching bridge at far right too. With canvas/burlap rolled up and stuck into the opening (there may be cork at the center of it, a bit hard to tell)--which has done the job very well, as there is next to no dust inside. The bottle is a Mohan Meakin rum bottle, earlyish 20th century I believe.
10 1/4" l x 2 7/8" d and in very good condition, reading bright and clean. Lies upright without the aid of a stand.
