One sees a fair number of old glass as well as ceramic apothecary jars out there, most of which I don't pay very much attention to, but the combination of the royal blue and gold leaf on this large ironstone one (and the excellent word ZINCO, Italian for Zinc) completely sold me; I just think it really beautiful, and a bit magical feeling too. C. 1880s or so, I believe, and I believe the jar was made in England, but the label makes me think for Italian export. (?) A nice big one, good for filling with pill bottles, or art supplies--or cookies!
9 1/2" t with lid on, 6 1/16" d base. Wear to the gold leafed label, as evident, and which I love, and with general crazing and darkening visible on the white areas. One small chip to the interior of the lid, only visible when removed; otherwise no chips or cracks, just one tiny imperfection around the rim of the base, original to it, as documented.
