The paper label on the underside of this antique box lid dates it pre-1876, when Rue du Rampart in Paris ceased to exist, replaced by l'Avenue du l'Opera. While I can't say for certain that the painting dates to the same period, I am pretty confident it does, and it is very much in the manner of eagles being drawn, painted and carved during and just after the Civil War. 13 bright yellow stars for the 13 colonies surrounding this wonderful big eagle, mustard yellow with bright yellow and brown details--really great.
10 3/4" t x 13 3/4" w x 1 1/8" deepest. Found in Maine. Easy to hang straight from one nail on the wall. The lid is composed of two pieces, with nails joining them, now with a little gap between. There is also a small gap in places where the rim of the lid meets it. Overall very good condition, stable, not fragile, and with really great, bold color.
