Wonderful Early 20th Century Large Tramp Art Tabletop Chest with Mirror

Regular price $380.00

Because I sell mostly entirely online, I try to resist purchasing larger things; this antique tramp chest pushes the boundary a bit, but I wanted it, and will pack it very carefully to ship.

Anyway, what a lot of effort went into this chest, with three drawers large enough to be quite useful. There is not a missing piece or even a chip that I can find; the knobs on the drawers and mirrors are carved too, and the only hardware anywhere are tiny brass nails securing the chip carved layers, and a few screws that attach and hold the mirror in place. The drawers, which open and close smoothly, are a happy surprise too, with cigar box paper announcing "the real thing", "Claro", and "Kornhauser's Favorite," and one with a stamped interior reading Phil Fehl, Hudson, NY--perhaps its maker? On the backside is paper stamp dated 1916, and would guess the chest dates to around that time.

21 1/4" tall x 15 1/2" wide x 10 1/4" deep. Heavy and very substantial. and in excellent condition. I have not touched the wood a bit. There is one old water stain on the chest top, and some clouding to the original mirror, which naturally tilts a bit upward, but could be held straight/flush with a small piece of cardboard or something slipped just underneath its bottom edge. (The wood panel on the back of the mirror can be opened, so it could be replaced.)

(Note: due to dimensions, the shipping calculator on this one at check-out is not going to be accurate, so please contact me prior to purchase for an exact shipping quote. It looks to me that shipping to NYC via UPS will be about $45, for ex, and closer to $100 to L.A.)
