I just fell in love with these, knit for a child (or an adult with very small hands) quite a long time ago. There is a similar pair in the collection of the Nordiska Museum in Stockholm (a marvelous place!) that tells me they are likely Swedish; I have found an image of some Icelandic mittens several hundred years old they are kin to as well. A few stitches the the zig zag embroidery lost on the thumb side (which makes sense) and a stain here or there, but I find that all to the good; someone saw some cold winter days in these! Very densely knit of heavy wool, with the embroidery in wool yarn too.
8" l. 4 1/2" across at fringe; 3 1/4" across at start of thumb. Overall good condition, with a few stains and a few lost embroidered stitches.
