Twirling and Bending, Wonderful c. 1940s Snapshot of Two USO Dancers with View of Trees Behind

Regular price $45.00

I love this photo. The seller I purchased it from described it as dancers at a USO event, WW2 era, and surely this dancer with skirt aloft must have pleased the troops! But while that fresh faced young woman and the twirl of her raised skirt are gorgeous, what really makes this photo for me the is the presence of the second dancer, back turned and body bent in a movement that feels much more Martha Graham than Marilyn Monroe. And that very modernist feeling gesture is somehow enhanced by the geometries of their paneled dance floor and the narrow, horizontal view through to grove of trees behind them. Great shoes, too!

4 11/16" x 3 3/4". Glossy. Very good condition, minor curling. I'm trying hard to get tone/coloration on my photos of photographs as close to actual as possible; this is close, though better in hand; a hair on the dark side as conveyed, which to me makes it feel a bit moody, as if a storm were rolling in. Quite rich and atmospheric.
