I found this one along with the sights of Rockland Maine drawing just listed--both done one pre-printed pages from some sort of booklet of art lessons. Here, presumably J.E. Rhodes himself fulfills a lesson in perspective by filling the open pages of the pre-printed book with a summation of his life:
"Ed Rhodes, the son of Gideon, was born in 1877. He was blest with large understandings. His feet were so large when he was 2 months old that they hung out over the foot of his cradle that they had to be wrapped up so the cat would not bite them. He always had a liking for white mice Miss Ames can testify. He always was a fond admirer of Percycution Hunt. [!??] He has many illustrious relatives, as Atty Gen Littlefield [this would be Charles Littlefield, indeed A.G 1889–1893) and Councilman J.E. Rhodes 1st. His is a member of R.H.S class of '93 and has never been in love."
He's also added titles to the spines of the two other books and drawn a flame on the candle. And then on the reverse side he's added a Mountain Dew label to a vase!
11" x 7 3/4". A little smudging and age toning but very good condition. A little research reveals that Rhodes went on the serve as as a naval officer in the 6th Maine Light Artillery.
