I'm forever on the hunt for Victorian pressed sea moss albums--harder and harder to find, and more and more precious when one does. This is a small one, but the pressings on each page are lovely, well preserved, and quite nicely arranged, with a good eye toward variety of color and form, too. The covers are (as noted on the reverse of the front one) it seems made from Yucca plant, and the front cover features an image of "Ramona's House" I believe inspired by Helen Hunt Jackson's popular Victorian novel "Ramona," all the range in the mid 1880s--as was sea moss collecting! The album itself would have been purchased blank, then the pages filled by the owner. Happily it easily comes apart via the string binding should one wish to frame the pages up.
4 5/8" x 3 9/16". 6 leaves fully filled on one side only plus covers. Very good antique condition, just minor losses to the samples here and there. I especially love the toning shadows on the opposite blank pages.
