It's the patina on the largest red egg here that completely won me--the most gorgeous color and surface. And then I realized there were many more eggs inside! A total of six, one fitting inside the next, each closing tight. I'll never get over a sense of delight over nesting objects, and eggs maybe most of all. And good for stuffing with clues, one leading to the next, to make for an elaborate treasure hunt!
Largest (red) egg 5 1/4" l x 3 3/16" d. One crack on one side of the red egg, and one on the smallest red one, as pictured -- but overall good condition, stable and lovely. C. 1910s-20s I believe.
