Set of Three 1880s Connecticut River Barge Operator's Ledgers with Pages and Pages of Satisfying Hatch Marks

Regular price $65.00

Honestly, I purchased these because I found the handwritten labels on their fronts and the pages and pages of careful hatchmark tallying inside very visually satisfying. But then I figured out they were logs kept by a barge operator, with each of those hatchmarks I believe representing a trip taken/load carried down the Connecticut River. I haven't dug too much into them, but each ledger contains records for the accounts of different individuals, with tally marks ranging from one to many dozen. One log from Lyme, CT, one from Hartford, and one New Haven, all first half 1880s.

Each approx 6 x 3 1/2". General wear  (including--as one might expect!--some water stains) especially to covers, but all holding together and readable throughout.
