Sculptural Large Brown Pottery Pitcher with Long Neck

Regular price $48.00

I am pretty compelled by this large and heavy studio pottery vessel, which I'd call a pitcher, though certainly an unusual one. I find its form, unfolding across 360 degrees, super evocative, reminding me at once of a horse (and the sculptures of Marino Marini, especially) and a gasoline can! Salt fired I believe (which yielded a few shiny areas), it seems to nod to old salt glazed jugs, and also calls sewer tile sculpture to mind. I think it could work as an unusual vase (spouting one big dramatic bloom?) or indeed as pitcher (pretty cumbersome to fill, though!) but best I think just as an interesting sculptural object.

13" tall x 8 3/4" across at widest x 5 1/2" deep and in great condition. There is a sort of incised line on one side of the neck, original to the making of the piece. See detail photos for best sense of shiny patches of glaze. Unsigned.
