Rust Colored Landscape with Waterfall, 1914 Painting with Sgraffito on Wood Panel

Regular price $115.00

Quite a radiant small painting, with the honey-rust color of the landscape feeling even more electric as set off by the light blue sky.   With a pointed tool--maybe a stick, picked up on site--used to scratch gestural lines into the wet paint, suggesting tall grasses or saplings sprouting up everywhere, and lending a sense of energy and motion to the whole scene. An unusual one, which packs a lot of punch for its small size Initialed HWW and dated 1910 at lower right.

8" x 6" and in very good condition, on thin wood panel. I found this framed, so it has been protected under glass for many years I believe, remaining very lush and crisp and as if it might have been painted yesterday.
