ROLLO, Beatifully Hand-Carved Antique Wooden Stamp

Regular price $70.00

I find this really beautiful as an object--and "Rollo." such an excellent work to have been carved--someone's last name I presume, with the hand-carved wooden stamp surely used to mark possessions, though I 'm not sure whether cloth (feed bags, say) or something else, perhaps many different things. I found it in Upstate NY near Albany, and would guess it had not travelled far. Wonderfully, deeply hand-carved letters, and nice long handle, with the stamp able to stand on its own from the  base of the handle. The word Rollo is Old English in origin, meaning "famed wolf," and is most famously associated with "Rollo of Normandy," the Viking chieftain who became the first ruler of Normandy...so a stamp of power!

3 7/8" long x 2 3/4" w x 1 1/8" t. Clearly used, all to the good, grat dry wood patina.
