Remember Me, C. Clark's Very Tenderly Decorated 1888 Eston Iron Stone Miniature Folk Art Book

Regular price $185.00

It has been quite a while since I found an antique carved stone book I really loved, but this one had my name written all over it--as well as the name of C. Clark! I believe the Eston Iron Stone carved into face of it likely refers to Eston, in the North Yorkshire,  England--where the discovery of ironstone deposits in 1850 led to the rapid industrial development of the area, transforming it into a major iron and steel production center. And perhaps our C. Clark worked in the mines there. What I especially love here are the more lightly incised drawings of flowers and flourishes animating the surface of the stone, in addition to more deeply carved , bold lettering: "Eston Iron Stone March 24, 1888" on one side, and "Remember Me" on the other, and "C Clark Eston" on the spine. Plus the semblance of a lock across the recessed pages. A very sweet and very singular example.

3 9/16" x 2 13/16" x 3/4". One chip to the top edge of the "remember me" side and a very small one to the lower edge of the front face.
