Raymond Till, Accounting Dept, Boston Navy Yard Early Photo ID Pass in Leather Sleeve

Regular price $30.00

I don't come across a pass or identification card with a photo this old very often, and I quite like the looks of our smiling Raymond Till in his hat and bow tie---not looking too much the accountant to me! The pass is for access to the Boston Navy Yard (in Charlestown, opened in 1800 as one of the first navy yards of the US Navy), and was issued by a US Navy Paymaster Armstrong King I believe. To me this looks early 20th century/WW1 era rather than later, and the leather is so soft from wear I think our man must have used it for many years.

5" x 3 1/4" closed. Overall good, much handled condition, with the film over the card making it appear yellow. One edge tear to the leather but very soft, not brittle. I have not removed the card from the case, but there is a bit of loss to the top edge of the paper as evident.
