Perhaps I’ve come across one of these before in a museum gift shop and didn’t really register it, but when I found this graphite hand this week in an antiques (and collectibles!) shop I thought it pretty brilliant! It was cast with a 1998 copyright mark and signature at the wrist, and a quick search revealed it as one of a series graphite sculptures by artist Agelio Batle. Maybe a bit kitschy (he’s done a whole series of different hands, objects, etc.) but I believe this was the first, and is definitely the best, and it’s really quite beautiful sitting on the desk or table, and a delight to draw with too! (Being entirely made of graphite, it writes from everywhere.)
4” x 2” x 2”. Very good condition. It is evident that the point on the pointer finger has done a bit of drawing but the rest of it is more or less pristine.
