Radiant, Feathery, Layers Upon Layers Antique Pieced "Pinecone" Mat

Regular price $125.00

I've finally figured out that "pinecone" is the term used to describe this sort of textile construction, with overlapping rings of inwardly pointing triangles. I keep wanting to describe it as toothy, and also feathery--and I keep thinking "Venus dentata" too, especially with that bright red center!) I've come across just a couple of other mats of this sort over a number of years, and scooped them both up immediately, this one found in Maine. Glorious, rich color, composed of what  seem to be mostly silks--soft, and indeed feeling quite feathery. With cotton back, itself quite beautiful. Really a gorgeous thing, which I'd like to see framed and hanging on the wall.

12 1/4" d. Very good antique condition, late-ish 19th century I believe, very sound and stable, not at all fragile.
