I find it so heartening and life affirming the care and effort people put into making useful things special, and find old emeries and pin cushions a perfect case in point...there's no reason for the tiny stitches meant to look like seeds on the smaller of these two emeries, but how nice that they, and the scalloped green velvet top, are there! For a long time I didn't know the distinction between emeries and pin cushions, but now know that the former are stuffed with emery powder, a granular mineral substance, and used to sharpen pin and needles.
Larger measures 1 5/8" t; small 1 1/8" t. Both are in good, I believe antique condition, with a couple of small holes in the exterior fabric of the larger--not leaking due to second layer of fabric underneath.
