Digging through many a box of old papers, there are things I turn up that I know haven't seen the light of day for many years--this woodcut, printed in black ink and signed by a Donald Pritchett, age 13, I know from the dealer I purchased it from lived in a storage space in PA for the past few decades. And it is just the sort I feel it my duty to liberate and steward. I would guess WW2 era, portraying a sky filled with what I take for fighter planes. I love the handling of the planes, and the gestural lines around them, evoking clouds or landscape--but also making it feel a bit as if the planes were floating over, or swimming through, the ocean. For me this quite transcends the work of a 13 year old.
Paper size 9" x 6 1/8". Light water stain along bottom edge left, as evident--somewhat more pronounced in photos than in hand. Otherwise very good condition.
