Old Painter's Box Bottom Half With Wonderful Grid of Found Color

Regular price $75.00

I spent several long days over the holiday going through boxes in the basement where i had stashed old inventory six or seven years ago from a little space i had in a shop nearby when i was just starting out in this business. About half of it I reboxed for selling at my local flea market this coming summer, and the other half (many boxes full!) I boxed up and dropped to Goodwill. Among all that stuff, there were just a couple of things I pulled to list here, this is one of them--a joyful surprise, the bottom half of old artist's paint box l had long since forgotten, which struck me now as very beautiful so I took the box apart in order to salvage it and be able to hang it on the wall. To my eye better than a painter's palette for the softness and chance-ness of the color and its division into a neat grid. (The horizontal slats would also allow one to treat it as a shallow shelf, though I'd call it a perfect found object just as it is.) The color seems to have come from a mix of pastels (mostly) and paint, and the onetime owner used corrugated cardboard to divide the sections further (the cardboard is very sturdily attached) which I love. A found rainbow of sorts for the new year!

16 3/4" x 13 7/16" x 2 1/4". Good condition, sturdy and sound, and color is stained on there, not loose powdery. Finger jointed corners to the box and suitcase handle at top one could hang it from. Brass hinge hardware still attached on one short side.
