Nude Staring Back, Loaded Antique Photograph of Model on Table with Wrinkled Fabric and Painted Backdrop

Regular price $175.00

I've held on to this one for a while, and will hold it in my mind long after it is gone, though I'd also be glad to keep it forever; as I write this I realize I am indeed completely obsessed with this photograph! My first thought upon finding it was of art historian Linda Nochlin, and of every art history course I ever took, especially those focused on postmodern critique; this photograph feels very much to me as though it should live on the cover of a book interrogating the male gaze. I find it complete perfection, right down to the very wrinkled drape covering this too small table (aspiring toward pedestal-hood) upon which she is quite awkwardly posed. And this expression on her face one could spend a whole 'nother book unpacking. And the backdrop, seam showing at left, with naive looking painting incorporating a Classical style temple, ionic columns and all.  I find this as complete excellent as any photograph could be.

6 3/8" x 4 7/8". Small loss to lower right corner and a small patch of light gray marks around her inside arm--which appear likely original to it/on the negative but it is a bit hard to tell.
