My first photo here is a composite showing two views of this carved stamp, a butter stamp I believe: target-like concentric circles on one end, a cross hatched square on the other, and both sides tapering to the middle like an hourglass. I rarely buy a butter stamp or mold, including for having little expertise about them, but this feels completely transcendent to me, and also like a very modernist feeling carved object, which I'd be as inclined to arrange among a set of geometric solid blocks as among kitchen primitives. Just perfect, gorgeous wood, beautiful dry patina, wonderful in the hand, super satisfying. And makes me want to stamp everything with it! 19th C. American I believe, found in Pennsylvania.
2 1/4" t. 1 5/8" diameter on concentric circles side. Beautiful antique condition, all the better in hand.
