Marvelous Antique Painted House Blocks Set in Pink, Blue, Orange

Regular price $170.00

I think now favorite blocks set I've had--and I've never seen another like them. That color!!! And that roof! And, though missing one side, that brick patterned blue box, too! And what a terrific looking mansion they add up to together. The pink and blue-purple and black and orange paint on these is akin to that found on early German erzgebirge houses, and makes me think likely this set is German, too, but there is no mark anywhere and no label on the box so I don't know for certain.

The pink blocks with paned windows are of two slightly different sizes, all soft, plain pink on the reverse. The roof of the house is actually composed of four different triangular pieces, which stand on a flat base; they are not attached, just rest against one another to form the pitched roof.  There are two blocks with partial doors in green and orange, and a number of blue painted rectangles too, plus what I take for a set of front steps. All of which fit together neatly in the box. C. 1870s-80s or so would be my guess.

Box: 8 1/2" x 5 1/16 x 2 7/8" t. Pink blocks, two sizes - smaller: 1 3/8" x 1 3/16" x 5/8"; larger: 1 5/8" x 1 3/8" x 5/8".  The box is missing one short side as pictured and shows some loss the the niches for the sliding lid, so it doesn't really hold in place, works great as a base for stacking blocks on top of though! General wear to the paint on the blocks, all to the good I think, just softening the color; no notabe chicks or cracks or issues.
