Perhaps a menagerie of cut paper animals--and soldiers, too, listed separately--would not set everyone's heart racing, but they sure do for me, especially when the names of the animals are written across their fronts in the very best manner of kid handwriting a la 1900 or so. Pure joy. I'm especially partial to the bat (name on reverse side) and hedgehog here, but the antlers on those deer (and dear!) are pretty marvelous too, and the horse cut from an apothecary trade card, with added cut paper saddle. I purchased a larger lot of these and have divided them into groups, thinking maybe that made manageable sense--two more sets listed today. My guess is perhaps a school project many years ago, with some variation in the writing--and in the scale of animals!--suggesting the work of different students.
Horse (with paper saddle) 5" long x 2 7/8" t. Hedgehog 2 3/4" l x 1 7/16" t. All in very good antique condition.
