I purchased this and a second naive watercolor drawing, surely by the same maker, from a seller in Pennsylvania, who found them tucked in the back of a late 19th century scrapbook. With gun in one hand, dagger in the other, this incredible feathered headdress, painted face, and streaming hair, I find it incredibly expressive and potent, in a manner not unlike ledger drawings, though I am pretty sure this is not a Native American piece.
Executed in super saturated color on natural colored heavyweight paper. It appears that the painting was cutout and glued onto a backing, which features what appears to be a hand-drawn and watercolored rendering for something industrial, with a bit of collage on top. 7 1/2" x 4 11/16". The paper shows wear, some roughness, and a few toning spots, which I think just add to the effect.
