There is a dealer at a shop I frequent in New Hampshire who I believe spent her whole life collecting antique toys and games; occasionally I hit the shop just right and come home with a small trove of good ones--this is one of four boxes from her listed today. Milton Bradley is better known for producing these "Magic Dots for Little Tots" but this set was produced by The Spaulbar Co. of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, who declared a 1907 patent. Instructions are printed on the underside of the lid but it's pretty basic--put the tiny cardboard dots into the holes on the cardboard cards to produce colorful designs! (Which is maybe a bit easier than it looks, though would require a fairly dexterous child.) And the effect, in fact, is quite satisfying, helped along by the good graphics on the set of six cards here. Most of them were at least partially completed long ago, but it is easy to pop the dots out and start again, and the reusability of the cards was among their selling points—no messy crayons or paints!
Box 6 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 3/4". Six cards and plenty of dots to complete them all. All in very good condition, with general light wear and toning to the exterior of the box.
