A total gem of a small painting I think, which if I weren't so much in the habit of listing things quickly, I'd take the time to find a nice fat black frame for, which would really make it sing. Beautifully done, oil on board, with wonderful attention given to every detail, right down to each carefully arranged match in that lovely red and white striped vessel. Renderings of pipes always make me think of Magritte, and I think Magritte would have really liked this painting, too.
7 11/16" x 4 3/16" and in very good overall condition, with some paint loss around the edges from where it was clearly previously framed. Late 19th/very early 20th c. I believe.
