This mid-sized, hand thrown mid-century vintage pottery vase features hand painted birds -- kiwi, I believe-- repeating around its perimeter. I love the wonderfully graphic treatment of the birds, rendered in a warm, brownish black, with round bodies, upturned beaks, and charmingly stick-like little legs and feet.
This piece was created at Lapid Pottery Works in Tel Aviv, Israel, a pottery founded shortly after the state of Israel was formed post WWII in 1949, and which continued to operate and export its wares until the 1980s. It is signed by its maker, Doron.
6.5" tall, with a 3 inch diameter, the vase is in excellent condition.
