Internal Conflict: Antique Pennsylvania Folk Art Doorstop with Carved Eagle

Regular price $160.00

Another one found in Pennsylvania, and I would bet that is where it was made, with a bit of a Wilhelm Schimmel character to the carving of the eagle. What really sold me on this was the internal tension embedded in it--to use it as a doorstop is to lay that eagle flat on its back, and to come very close at least to treading on it. Which makes it feel very much like a metaphor. Oh, America.

6 1/4" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/4". Wear to the bottom edge of the doorstop testifying to its indeed having been well used, and all to the good I think. Terrific dry wood patina. Late 19th/early 20th c. I believe. (One could mount a small hanger to the flat back of the  stopper to hang if desired).
