Girl in Blue and White with Pail and Milking Stool, Wonderful Antique Folk Art Painting on Artist Palette

Regular price $195.00

You know I love a stool, and what a delight to find a three legged one in the hands of the young woman in this old folk painting on artist palette, clearly headed out to do the milking, pail in hand. Wonderful bonnet and long blue skirt, wonderful earnest looking face and long brown hair, and wonderful the way her arm is wrapped around the underside of the stool, hand wrapping the edge. Richly painted meadow of browns and greens, too, with fence and a few trees along the horizon, sunrise sky above. Not very often I come across an old folk art painting on an artist palette and this a real charmer, late 19th century or so, I believe.

11" x 7 5/8". A scattering of paint loss to the sky, as detailed, and a thin hairline split to the palette running just above and below a small nail hole used to hang it. Stable and not creating issues. Otherwise very good condition, unpainted reverse.
